UNIVERSITY Data Model

The UNIVERSITY DATA MODEL is a global model of a University's data. The Model is a representation of the persons, places, things, concepts and events in a University including the relationships between these entities. It is also a blueprint for database implementation. It can enhance communication of the data used by the University so that a meaningful interpretation of the data can be made.

The use of this model will provide you the means to lead your Information Systems well into the future. The Model provides this direction and flexibility because it is available in CASE tools. The model, which is independent of Information Systems platforms, can be forward engineered into your physical environment.

The UNIVERSITY DATA MODEL will facilitate the creation of your own global data model. It will provide a baseline for all software projects (whether developed in-house or purchased), software maintenance, and software re-engineering.

The data model solves the problem of creating a model from scratch. If the data model were developed in-house, it would no doubt cost several years worth of effort. In addition, it provides an excellent method of validating and augmenting an existing data model. With the Data Model in place, the process of developing and/or purchasing software becomes streamlined. It also adds consistency to all systems development efforts, thus providing the ability to integrate all future software projects.

The Model facilitates the expansion of the business into other areas quickly and easily, thereby increasing the productivity of the entire systems development staff.

The Data Model contains an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) with entities, attributes, domains, and descriptions for a University. It is fully extendible and available in several CASE tool sets and/or a multitude of physical platforms. If a CASE tool is not available, the model can be provided in a hard copy format.

You can view samples of the data models by clicking here or by clicking on each of the buttons at the left.
